About Climate Action Richmond Hill

We are a community-based organization dedicated to mobilizing and facilitating climate action on the local level for a more sustainable, healthy and resilient Richmond Hill community.

Our Story

Climate Action Richmond Hill (CARH) was formed in 2023 through the powerful merge of three dedicated local climate groups: Target Climate, Drawdown Richmond Hill, and Neighbours for the Planet. We came together to scale community learning and accelerate climate action.

We aim to help Richmond Hill remain a climate frontrunner by making climate information clear, local, and accessible.

What Is Climate Action, and Why It Matters

Climate action is intentional efforts taken by individuals, institutions and governments to mitigate climate change (by reducing greenhouse gas emissions) and adapt to climate change (by increasing the capacity to withstand its negative impacts).

There are myriad ways to mitigate and adapt, from how we eat, build, and travel, to how we preserve the ecosystems and prepare for extreme weather emergencies. Richmond Hill is already experiencing heat waves, ice storms, and heavy rainfalls more frequently. To mitigate and adapt, the City of Richmond Hill has launched the Resilient Richmond Hill initiative and adopted the Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP).

Climate Action Richmond Hill strives to raise public awareness of and participation in the City’s climate plan and initiatives. This work is important because it can bring health, social, environmental and economic benefits while instilling a sense of hope in our community in the amid the climate crisis.
